Introducing the unit: Option 1
Week 1
Starting this week, we’re going to tell
stories about God the Maker who made the whole world!

Week 2 onwards
We’re telling stories about God the Maker
who made the whole world!
Introducing the unit: Option 2
âžœFocus: the liturgical colour, green
This introduction is particularly designed for the autumn. If you’re using this unit in spring, summer or winter, use Option 2 from the Jesus’ Wonderful Love unit instead.

Who can tell us what colour season we’re in now?
If appropriate: You may have seen it in church.
Invite a child to respond with the colour.
At the moment, we’re in Green Time!

If appropriate:
Let’s all look out for green when we go back into church.
Or: Let’s remember to look and see what colour we’re in next time we go into church.

Either:
In Green Time, the Church grows like a tree or flower.
We’re the Church, so we’re going to be growing, too!
Or:
In Green Time, everything grows, including us!

All around us, flowers and trees have been growing tall.
Can you show me a beautiful tree stretching up to the sun,
waving its branches in the breeze?
Lead the children in being a tree.

Now it’s turning to autumn time.
Our leaves are turning brown.
And it’s getting more and more windy!
Can you show me the wind
blowing through your branches?
Lead the children in waving arms gently and blowing.

Seeds have been growing on our trees.
Conkers and acorns and pine cones.
Can you wiggle your fingers in the breeze
and show me the little seeds at the ends of your fingers?
Lead the children in wiggling fingers.

Now it’s autumn,
it’s time for our seeds to drop to the ground.
Let’s show our seeds falling gently to the ground.
Lead the children in wiggling fingers down to the ground.
Going down into the soil.

It’s time for our seeds to go to sleep!
Let’s sleep like the little seeds from the trees.
Lead the children in curling up into a ball.
Ssssssssh!
Let’s sleep well so we’re ready to wake up
and grow up tall next spring.

Everything that grows plants seeds in Green Time.
I wonder what seeds God is planting inside you?
Today we’re going to ask God to plant a seed in us
by telling a story about God the Maker
who made the whole world!
