Prayers Action: Option 1
âžœAction: taking a sad face and placing it on a cloth.

In our story, the slaves are sad.
They groan.
After 3, let’s all groan together like the slaves.
1, 2, 3, groan!
And again!
1, 2, 3, groan!
Ssssh! Listen! Hand behind ear
God’s heard the slaves groaning!
God’s going to send Moses to help them.

I wonder if you know someone who’s sad at the moment?
Name and Name are going to bring around a basket of sad faces.
If you like you can take a sad face
and hold it up to God like this. Model holding one high
Let’s ask God to hear our sad face as a prayer.

Hum the tune together, with ‘Jesus, hear our prayer’ as a refrain until all the children and adults who wish to take sad faces have done so.

God hears us when we groan or cry.
Let’s give our friend’s sadness to God.
Let’s put our sad faces on this cloth in the centre.
Let’s ask God to help our sad friend.
Maybe God is asking US to help them?

Lead the children in singing again as they place their sad faces on a cloth in the centre. Some groups may like to ask two children to go round the circle in opposite ways with trays to collect the faces. The trays can then be placed in the centre of the circle. End this time of prayer with the final verse from the Prayer Song you’ve chosen.

Prayer Action: Option 2

I wonder if you know someone who’s sad at the moment?
Name and Name are going to bring around a bowl of water.
If you like you can dip your fingers in the water.
You can put water on your cheeks like tears.

Let’s remember the people we know who are sad.
Let’s ask God to hear their sadness like a prayer.
Let’s ask God to help them.
Maybe God is asking US to help them?
