Every Saying Sorry time should end by assuring the children that
God gives them a new start.
Most Diddy Disciples Saying Sorry Actions already include this promise of a new start. If they don’t – or if you’ve created your own Saying Sorry Action – you should choose one from the following New Start options, or create your own assurance of forgiveness.
You could also choose to move straight from the Sorry Song to
God’s promise of a new start, without any Saying Sorry Action.

New Start Action: Option 1
➜ 1 John 1.9; Psalm 147.11
âžœAction: tracing a cross/smile on each other’s forehead

The Good News is:
God always wants to give us a new start!

Let’s turn to the person next to us
and show that God gives them a new start.

Let’s take our thumb/finger Show thumb/finger
And draw a cross/smile on their forehead
Draw a cross/smile in the air

If your group is drawing a smile, add:
to show that God is very happy with them!

Let’s say ‘God gives you a new start!’
Then let them give you a new start, too!

When the group has finished drawing a cross or smile to show each other God’s new starts:
Let’s use our new start to share God’s love this week!

New Start Action: Option 1
➜ Psalm 145.14; Luke 15.20
➜ Action: standing up and hugging each other

The Good News is:
God always wants to give us a new start!

Let’s help someone next to us stand up from the floor.
Then let them help you stand up too!
Lead the children in helping each other stand up.

Then let’s give each other a hug and say:
‘God gives you a new start!’

When the group has finished showing each other God’s new starts:
Let’s use our new start to share God’s love this week!

New Start Action: Option 3
âžœ Song: ‘God loves to give me a new start!’ © Sharon Moughtin-Mumby
âžœ Tune: ‘Give me oil in my lamp’ (traditional).

God always wants to give us a new start!
Let’s sing our New Start song together.

[Yes, my] God loves to give me a new start!
Trace a smile/cross on your own forehead
How amazing is God’s love for me!
Cross hands on your chest
[Yes, my] God loves to give me a new start!
Trace a smile/cross on your own forehead
How amazing is God’s love for me!
Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna! Wave hands in the air
Sing hosanna to the King of kings!
Wave hands then place an imaginary crown on your head.
Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna! Wave hands in the air
Sing hosanna to the King!
Wave hands then place crown on your head.
