In November We Remember
➜ Book 1, pp.129-166.
Introduction
The In November, We Remember unit gives young children the opportunity to take part in the ‘remembering’ that goes on at this time of year. It’s particularly appropriate for groups from churches holding services for Remembrance Sunday, All Saints and Christ the King, but other groups may also find the material helpful.
In week 3, children are gently invited to explore death and dying as a natural part of life, first through the beauty of dying autumn leaves, and then through a leader remembering someone who has died. It can be hugely beneficial to young children to witness an adult talking in a healthy way and in a safe environment about their memories of someone they love who has died. More guidance on how to go about this in your group is given in the introduction to that week’s session.

extended activity

This unit contains an extra week (it can replace any of the other weeks or be added to the week prior to November), which invites young children to take part in raising money for those in need. Your group may like to choose a local or overseas project for which to raise money. Alternatively, if your church or school is already getting involved in a Children in Need project this November, you might like to contribute to that.
