Prayers Action
➜ Guide: Book 1, p.223
Prayers Action: Option 1
âžœAction: placing paper, fabric, wooden, or real flowers in a ‘garden’ (see Book 1, p.97)
Either: It’s Green Time!
Or: It’s spring/summer/autumn/harvest time!
We can see flowers and trees
growing beautifully all around us.

The world’s full of so many different colours!
When we pray, we can be part of bringing God’s life
to the world around us.
We can be part of helping other people to grow.

Invite two children to take round baskets filled with the flowers.
Name and Name are going to bring round these baskets of flowers.
If you like, you can take a flower.
Let’s ask God to see these flowers as a prayer for a special person.

Hum the tune together, with the words ‘Jesus, hear our prayer!’ as a refrain, until all the children and adults who wish to take a flower have done so.

Place your ‘garden’ in the centre of the circle.
If you like, you can place your flower in our garden as a prayer.
This Green Time, let’s watch beautiful things
growing in our garden and in our lives as we pray.

Hum the tune together again while the group place their flowers. Larger groups may like to invite two children to carry the ‘garden’ around the circle to collect the children’s flowers. This garden can then be placed in the centre of the circle.

End this time of prayer with the final verse of the Prayer Song you’ve chosen.

Prayers Action: Option 1
âžœAction: growing from a seed

Either: It’s Green Time!
Or: It’s spring/summer/autumn/harvest time!
We can see flowers and trees
growing beautifully all around us.

When we pray, it can be like planting a little seed:
a seed that will grow into something beautiful.
Let's think of someone we'd like to pray for.
Let's imagine our prayer is like a seed!

Let’s be that seed now.
Let’s curl up into a ball.
Lead the children in curling up into a ball.

Let’s show our roots with our fingers.
Lead the children in wiggling fingers.

We need to let our roots grow down deep.
Lead the children in wiggling fingers down.
Then after three, let a little shoot pop up.
1, 2, 3 . . . Pop!
Poke your hands up over your head like a little shoot.

Then start to grow up tall.
Gradually stand up, swaying like a growing stalk.
Taller and taller onto our tiptoes . . .
Reach up with pointy hands and on tiptoes.

Let’s turn our faces up towards the sun!
Then let our leaves or branches spread out wide.
Arms stretch slowly outwards.
What beautiful plants!
When we pray,
it can be like planting little seeds of love all around us.

End this time of prayer with the final verse of the Prayer Song you’ve chosen.
